While, prima facie, actions taken by schools in the UK are hardly of direct interest to us, please note that considerable efforts are underway to build FOSS handy devices that Indian schoolchildren will get as part of a much needed change in educational practices. Some of the comments in the Daily Mail article might be relevant to all persons interested in the subject. Yes, it can be argued that IPads (and proprietary environments) are not good enough for the job. Imho, it can also be argued that Indian schools are not good enough for the job. Such arguments are only contentious and not productive. Just buckle down and work to do it better, then have a discussion on the fine tuning.
