I think what really happens is that people don't realize that there is
some thing about communication and ICT which is so interlinked.
If proprietary software is disregarded and thrown away, the selfishly
motivated and other such individuals and institutes will use this very
free software in a way that takes away your other freedom, namely
freedom of information control.
Yes, it is a different issue all together, but interlinked never the
less in a subtle way.
We easily forget that free softwaer is just a major step towards our
digital freedom, now that we have it to a great extent, we must think
about the more wider implications of ICT, FOSS or proprietary, in terms
of self information control.

I'm glad RMS agrees with my views on Privacy and Free Software.
I'd strongly recommend everyone listen to what RMS says about Free
Software and Privacy.
"Human rights depends on each other and if you lose one you lose other."
And he lists speech, association, press, assembly, free software and
privacy as those important human rights.
