It is surprising that you do not consider osm.org as an excellent
alternative to google maps. In fact in terms of maturity, osm is more
mature than diaspora, poddery, and has wonderful following. Also there
are mobile apps available that provide offline maps for every country.
I would like to know why not osm as an alternative to g'maps?
