There are many references to the ipnodes database in nsswitch backend 
code that cannot be removed without prior merging of hosts and
ipnodes on the back-end store (nis/ldap servers). 
There is a CR for this:

Sparks team is managing the long term goal of removing ipnodes from
the back-end entirely, and were involved in the architecural review of
this change. But any remaining usage of the ipnodes file should be
removed from both ON and install consolidations by this project.
