GLDv2's solution was somewhat different. The idea there was to
accommodate those certain nics that sent VLAN frames by having a
different piece of meta data somewhere else in their descriptor. There
are some such NICs, but they can be accommodated without needing this
just by ripping the VLAN tag out of the data section of the frame, if
needed.
