Indeed.  Adi Masputra (who did the multidata design) also wrote a really
nice design specification for multidata, included with PSARC/2002/276
(mmd.pdf in the "materials" directory).  It would be great if someone
could go back and open up that case (I also see that mmd.pdf itself is
marked "Sun internal" -- but I suspect we could open it up).
