Pause messages are usually generated directly by the network adapter with s/w usually only getting involved to set some FIFO thresholds. The likelihood is then that whatever traffic is going to the X2200 is causing some hardware FIFO to fill beyond some threshold and thus pause packets are being sent back to the switch.
