Does your network have a DHCP server? If it does, then why didn't you get an address from it? > 2) I disabled nwam and did everything manually. ifconfig rge0 plumb up, > setup the ip addr > 3) setup /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/nsswitch.conf with dns for hosts and > ipnodes > 4) setup /etc/hosts > 5) setup route for 0.0.0.0 > > at this point I can ping my gateway, my nameservers and anything else on the > internet. If that works, and the rest doesn't, then that points to an error in /etc/nsswitch.conf. Do you have IP Filter configured? Are you sure the right rules are matching? Are you positive that the netmask is set right for this network? You can get some pretty strange results with a bad netmask. Check the kstats on the driver for errors. Are you doing something odd, like forcing duplex on either end of the link rather than using standard Ethernet autonegotiation? The telnet problem sounds like reverse resolution to me: when you telnet to that remote system, it tries to look up your IP address to translate it back into a name to log. If a PTR record for your IP address is missing from your local name server's in-addr.arpa map, this can cause lengthy delays in connection (and prevent connection to some sites). Packet traces might help. I'd recommend using wireshark. -- James Carlson, Solaris Networking <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sun Microsystems / 35 Network Drive 71.232W Vox +1 781 442 2084 MS UBUR02-212 / Burlington MA 01803-2757 42.496N Fax +1 781 442 1677 _______________________________________________ networking-discuss mailing list [email protected]
