I get..
add_drv -i '"pciex14e4,1673"' bge
drvconfig: modctl failed to add major number binding.
No such file or directory

I assume this is because /etc/name_to_major is missing the bge 196 
entry.. How is this populated?

Just so there isn't any confusion.. it's almost certainly some mistake 
I've made in the local /etc/ and not a bug

Whatever the cause it's also tied to how /etc/path_to_inst and 
/etc/name_to_major are being generated..
