This use of a separate filesystem is cool, but I have a question: why is /var
the right place for this stuff? I'm coming from Linux and FreeBSD where
something you want to be persistent would go under /usr/local, but I see my
OpenSolaris doesn't have such a thing by default. I just want to be consistent
with the platform standards.

Even on FreeBSD or Linux, I don't configure named to use
data files stored under /usr/local. Only applications that live
under /usr/local should have data files under /usr/local.

I usually put named configuration files in /etc/named on other
platforms, just like mail related bits go in /etc/mail.
