As I mentioned in my earlier message, the flag day announcement
contains the when from the date and build standpoint.

If you search the changeset for ppa, you will find the relevant code.

If it is just a matter of somewhat longer term support of
/etc/hostname.$((vlan * 1000 + instance)), a modification to
/lib/svc/method/network-physical should do the trick.  That is, you
could modify it to call "dladm create-vlan" when appropriate.
