Hello networking and security communities!
I would like to request sponsorship from BOTH communities for the following
project (this is also the introduction to the in-progress design document):
The Internet Key Exchange Protocol, version 2 (IKEv2), is used to
mutually authenticate two parties and derive Internet Protocol
Security (IPsec) keying material. It is a successor protocol to IKE
(referred to in here as IKEv1), which was implemented originally in
Solaris 9 as documented by PSARC case 199/166. IKEv2 is currently
specified by RFC 4306, along with clarifications in RFC 4718. A new
Internet-Draft (referred to here as IKEv2bis) attempts to unify 4306
and 4718, along with solving additional issues. When there is
ambiguity, this design will follow the guidance of IKEv2bis.
I would like sponsorship from both, as most IPsec technologies straddle both
communities.
Thanks,
Dan
