Good to hear.  I missed that detail from your original message; I'd
thought you started it with "ypinit -c".  That's the _only_ way I've
ever configured a NIS client.

At a guess, and just a wild one, when you started ypbind manually, you
either didn't have the domain set correctly, or didn't have the proper
environment set up for it to run.
