I enabled nis/client (I had done before, not sure what happened there). Now
when I do ypcat passwd is give the same error as before, except now it says:
ypcat[1016]: yp_all - transport level create failure for domain test / map

Did you try rebooting the domain? The other thought here is that you
should check to see if rpc services are enabled (specifically
network/rpc/bind). I would have *thought* that would have been enabled
automatically with network/nis/client... but maybe not.
