Still no joy, I am using an Atheros A/B/G card that IBM ships with
their Thinkpads.  I will sit down tomorrow and play with it some more.

Good News though, it worked flawlessly with my personal laptop that
runs a intel IPW2200!

After using NetworkManager for the past two days I can say that I am
VERY impressed.  It has lived up to it's billing as the easiest way to
switch between networks.

Now to figure out why it hates my work laptops Athero's card!  ;)
