NM fails to obtain list in FC5 with orinoco_usb driver

I'm running FC5 on a Compaq Evo N610C with a W200 wireless adapter (orinoco-usb).  With NM turned off, I have no problems connecting wirelessly to an unsecured AP which is broadcasting the SSID.  After treading the FedoraForum, it seems that almost everyone was able to connect with these parameters (trouble didn't start until encryption was added...but that's a different problem).  When I run 'NetManager --no-daemon', I get the following:

I travel periodically and I would love to have the benefit of this application.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
