At this time Network-Manager does not work with static addresses so you need to use DHCP for it to work. I think Static IP address settings are scheduled for .7. If you don't want to enable DHCP on your home router (Though I don't see why not...) and it supports setting a reservation you could create a pool with no addresses but then create a reservation for your laptop then it would only distribute one address and that would be only to your laptop.
