I was ignoring this thread, but for some reason read the email. I have a dell d820 with the wireless kill switch on the side. I decided to test it. When I turn it off, the card is off, but NetworkManager doesn't know it. If I restart NetworkManager, then the wireless is ignored. If I turn it on, NetworkManager doesn't notice till I restart NetworkManager. Is this what you are talking about? These are the messages from /var/log/messages.
