Right; since ipw drivers apparently don't pick an adhoc channel at all when -starting- an adhoc network, and wpa_supplicant provides no means to specify a frequency in the config. NM _could_ manually set the frequency, possibly when wpa_supplicant enters the "associating" phase. I'd take a patch for that if somebody finds out that it actually works.
