Tambet just commited a fix for the warning last last week or something. I'm not convinced that nm-system-settings is hanging on shutdown, because nm-system-settings doesn't *do* much of anything when it shuts down; it should either exit or segfault. Can you try moving /usr/sbin/nm-system-settings out of the way (rename it to /usr/sbin/nm-system-settings.BAK or something like that) and see if the shutdown still doesn't work correctly?
