I've noticed the same thing using wired and wireless, it always defaults to the wired route regardless of pre-existing connections. I've just always set it manually afterwards. I have tried on occasion playing with the "Route" setting in the connection editor, however this has only helped on static vpns - perhaps I missed the syntax though.
