Hi,

I am new to this mailing list.

I am using Ubuntu 8.10. I have not been able to resolve the problems on their
forums, so this is why I am joining the newsletter.

Apologies in advance if I am repeating a common thread. If so I would be
grateful if you could please send a link.

I have set up my wireless connection using Network Manager and this runs
perfectly. I have set it to use the DHCP server on the router and the router
sets it up as IP 192.168.1.2; Mask 255.255.255.0 GW 192.168.1.1 (Address of
router).

Now I wish to set up a wired connection to the same router. When I am in my
home office and sitting next to the router I may as well connect to it by wire.
I also wish to use a mains ethernet connection in the future to substitute the
wireless connection when my wife connects in the living room).

Unfortunately Network manager fails to connect to the router by wire.

I have set the following wired connection settings:

Edit Connections->Wired->Add;
1. Name: Wired Connection 1 (Default)
2. Connect Automatically : Set.
3. System Setting : Not Set (If I set this then the settings disapear into
oblivion).
4. Wired TAB:
4.1 Mac Address: 00:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX: (Mac address obtained from ifconfig -a.
4.2 MTU : Automatic
5. 802.1X Security
5.* All options are not set. (Unsecure network, plase advise me otherwise if
this not recommended. The router has a firewall).
6. IPV4 Settings TAB:
6.1 Method: Automatic DHCP
6.2 Client DHCP ID: 192.168.1.1 (Router Adress).

This never seems to connect. I have toggled my IPV4 settings to Static IP's,
and this does not work either. No joy.

My nm-tool output when the wireless is switched off and on below:

This has been bothering me for months. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
