Hi, firstly the 3G modem's lsusb output...
l...@leke-desktop:~$ lsusb
...
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 12d1:1003 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E220 HSDPA Modem
...

I guess it's not picking up the hardware. That is, I usually connect
the modem and left click the applet icon and choose the named profile
I created. The manager usually connects me in a few seconds. The
problem is the profile doesn't appear. I can only see the profile in
the 'Edit connections' window under Mobile broadband. Earlier in the
postings, I mentioned trying to delete and recreate my profile, but
without success.

Another thing. I was mistaken when I said the WLAN was working. It
picks up the networks available to connect to, but fails to connect. I
can connect to these networks with my internet tablet and have
connected to them in the past with NetworkManager.

I also made a mistake about the version of Ubuntu I was running. It's
Ubuntu 8.04.2 (taken from /etc/issue)

I hope I can redeem myself here though. Here is the output of the 3G
modem running in debug mode...

l...@leke-desktop:~$ sudo NM_SERIAL_DEBUG=1 NM_PPP_DEBUG=1
/usr/sbin/NetworkManager --no-daemon
NetworkManager: <info> starting...
NetworkManager: <WARN>  nm_dbus_manager_start_service(): Could not
acquire the NetworkManager service as it is already taken.
NetworkManager: <WARN> main(): Failed to start the dbus service.
NetworkManager: <info> exiting (error)

Thanks for the help.
