0.7.1 would help, but also make sure you are entering an APN and possibly username and password, even those are just "guest"/"guest". Also running NM like: NM_SERIAL_DEBUG=1 /usr/sbin/NetworkManager --no-daemon will give more information about what could be going wrong.
