Have we resolved or at least satisfied any potential legal issues about trying to including BSD-derived code in a GPLv2+ project? If there's simply no other way to do the operations then it may well be OK, but given that (last I knew) the patch was more or less based on 'iw' (which is BSD licensed) I'm not exactly comfortable with applying the patch without a bit of legal advice.
