Thank you! I tracked it down to a PPP negotiation problem, whereby the provider won't allow 3G for some reason. Also: the modem-manager from your PPA does crash a lot for me, in what looks like several different situations. Unfortunately I'm a bit exhausted by the issue for now.. In the end, 2G works for me now (albeit with occasional MM crashes).
