First of all, yes, ifupdown plugin is enabled :
# cat /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf 
[main]
plugins=ifupdown,keyfile
[ifupdown]
managed=true

Then, for the logfile, I think it is in syslog... Nothing seems suspect.

But it seems NM doesn't "see" /etc/network/interfaces connections...
# nmcli connection show
