After a commit last night, perchild.c compiles for me on FreeBSD 3.4.
But note that I did not add an include of <sys/param.h> since it
didn't appear to be needed.
If it is needed on your system, please let me know and I will handle.
(I'd be curious about the FreeBSD version.)
