I have sent each of these posters a short reply and thanking them for

Subject: sgi acclerating apache project
Date: Tue, 27 Feb 2001 21:11:47 -0700

The work done by sgi in providing an array of improvements to the apache
project and server is invaluable. It seems absolutely ridiculous that in the
face of 4 to 10 fold speed increases and a myriad of other benefits that
such work would be completely disregarded. For a project such as apache to
compete in an ever more intensive market of enterprise web tools focus needs
to be placed on HA and speed. Obviously there may be some difficulties
because of certain coding issues or licensing but the obvious lack of
understanding from your organization of the needs of apache using
organizations shakes my faith in your project. Please reconsider your
refusal to incorporate these important optimizations and find a way to
reconcile the seemingly minor incompatibilities.

Sincerely,

Subject: Please accept Mike Abbott's contributions

Hi

I am writing to express my interest in Mike Abbott from SGI's contributions
to the Apache project at http://oss.sgi.com/projects/apache/

I have been running Apache as long as it has been around. My company has
been hosting sites since 1994 in New York and Amsterdam.

Please reconsider your decision not to accept his performance patches. I think
a lot of people out there want to see progress made in that direction.

Thanks for your consideration and time, and of course for your work
on Apache

best,

Nick

Hello!

Why in the hell would you guys not take SGI's performance code and
incorportate it into the standard distributions? :-)

Subject: Apache Acceleration

We have found the Apache patches distrubuted at oss.sgi.com to be very
fast and reliable. Please find a way to integrate these into the
offical Apache source tree so as to improve the existing Apache and to
not alienate a key Linux advocate at SGI.

You should consider including SGI's Accelerating Apache patches into the
Apache web server source code. It is stable, and it increases the speed of
the server. I would hate to see these modifications be lost.

Subject: Appeal for Acceptance of SGI's Performance Patches to ASF
Date: Sat, 3 Mar 2001 09:17:23 +0800
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hi,

I'm not a web server developer, but I have followed the improvements made
by Mike Abbott and various contributors, and have tested and benchmarked the
various versions with great success and stability.

On behalf of various other users of Apache, I would like to appeal to the
ASF to reconsider the decision to not include these improvements, and work
out a way for these improvements to be benefited by those who value
performance. I must say that such improvements often give decision makers
the benefit of the doubt for choosing Apache over other servers like
Microsoft IIS.

        Thank you

Subject: ASF politics or something else?
Date: Sat, 10 Mar 2001 21:52:05 -0800

I do not know what the politcal reasons for the ASF not accepting Mike
Abbott's patches may be. But the patches are quite significant and should
be considered as being integrated into the source tree as atlease a
configure option. I can understand why certain patches may not be included
for technical reasons, but many patches that SGI has developed have no valid
reason why they should not be included.

I would think that the ASF would appreciate the great code from SGI and
someone from the ASF should at least review the valuable code that is being
thrown out the window.

Its sad to see so much politics being formed in the OSS community nowdays.
I can only hope that the ASF does not become as political as ICANN... I like
to see _good_ work get done, not people saying they don't like code because
it comes from SGI.

Just my $0.02 ...
