Removing a filter is almost always a bad idea. Try to avoid putting the
filter into the stack in the first place.

[ by the simple fact that you "know" a filter is present, and you go to
  remove it, that means that you've constrained the system to have that
  thing present and have it removed. think "coupling" or "encapsulation" ...
  one piece of the code shouldn't know what the other guy is doing, and it
  should be independent of whatever they've done. ]
