I know that Ken was recently looking at the issue of escaping in
RewriteRule. Well, the problem also exists in RedirectMatch. I have seen
many people on the newsgroup confused about this issue, and I can't say
that I understand why the escaping is there. It was added by Dean back in
1997 (Revision 1.25)in response to PR1153, but my opinion is that PR1153
did not really make any sense to start with.

Anyway, if anyone wants to take a look:

Subject: Bug 7503 ?

I submitted a patch a wee while ago which fixes an outstanding inconsistency
that has been in mod_alias for a couple of years. I also sent a [PATCH] email to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and emails to the nearest I could find to owners for the
module, and so far I have not heard a peep out of anyone.

Assuming this reaches a human (someone appears to be responding to spam emails
to the bug list by closing them out) can you respond?

Cheers
Dave
