Actually rather than debate this point by point, why don't we try to
come up with a list of things this layout should support and go from
there?
Automated or manual rollup of subproject source for release/development
(either separately or with httpd)
mimics our subproject's layout under /dist on apache.org so it can map
to there
does not prevent either CPAN-like or FreeBSD ports-like distribution
sound like the first few.
