[newbie] Having Problems Mounting

I just installed Mandrake on another computer and now when i try to mount my
windows partition using:

mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /dos

it tells me vfat isnt supported by the kernel. msdos doesnt work either. What
do I do and how do I make the kernel support it? Also, how do I configure the
kernel for sound? Thanks!
