Is this an internal modem? If it is, you DON'T want to enable the
second comport in the BIOS, since the modem provides it itself.
If all of that is correctly setup, check the /dev/modem link to see that
it points to the correct comport. From your description, it should
point to /dev/ttyS2. Check it like this:
ls -l /dev/modem
