[newbie] Changing Bit Depth/Resolution

I'm new to linux and linux-mandrake alike, my friend sort of "coaxed" me
into trying it.  I have several problems, but I'll start with the one
I'm most sure of.  Simpily put, how do i change the bit depth and
resolution for KDE???
