The command is startx -- -bpp 16
(dont forget the ----^^)
(two dashes followed by -bpp 16
two dashes followed by one dash and bpp 16

cua2 is com3. If your modem is on com3 than its correct. However I
suspect your modem is on com2 which would be cua1. Understandable
mistake and one many newbies can make.
