Thanks for your reply. The specs are as follows:
Tecra 700CT notebook computer:
- Processor: 120 MHz Intel Pentium processor with 16KB internal cache
- Video: SVGA graphics controller with a PCI local bus, VESA Extended VGA BIOS (including VBE/PM), using Chips & Technologies CT 65548 video display.
- IEEE1284 8-bit ECP parallel port
- Mouse: AccuPoint pointing device and external PS/2 compatible mouse port
- Sound: ESS Technologies ES688, Yamaha OPL3 (YMF262), and Yamaha D/A converter (YAC512). Compatible with Sound Blaster.
- CD-ROM: 5.25 inch quadruple speed, MPC-compliant CD-ROM. I'm not sure if I can boot from the CD-ROM. I think it is only the floppy or from the HD.
- PCMCIA: Two Type II PCMCIA slots
I have Win98 installed currently but I am thinking of only installing Linux Mandrake and deleting the Win98 OS. Is that possible? Also, can I still run one or two MS/Win programs such as Word or Excel under Linux?
Thanks for your help.

We need more specific information about the hardware. Do you have sound?
What kind of video chipset are you using? Does it have a CD or will you be
installing from network or image files? Is the cd bootable or can you have
both the floppy and cd in at the same time? Do you want KDE/X or not? When
you find all that out, go to
http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/fhard.html That shows all supported
hardware for Mandrake. If your stuff checks out, sure you can run it.
