[expert] Change windows manager within KDE 1.1

Hi all,

how do I change the desktop manager in KDE 1.1. I would like to switch to afterstep. I 
have backed up the
Xclients & xinitrc files. then made a new xinitrc file just to use afterstep. BUT when 
I change back to
KDE. the x server would not connect.

kwm is great but its not as exciting as afterstep or gnome where u can change the 
theme. it's just 2
windoze-like.

is it possible to switch desktop manager from within kwm itself? Thanks.
