I have the same problem and found it works with a different PS/2 mouse.
I think the problem is that I must have somewhere along the line told
the system that it was a dev/mouse instead of a dev/psaux.
I just edited the XF86Config file mouse section to read
"dev/psaux"
and am hoping this solves the problem.
XV86Config is in either /etc or /etc/X11.
Hopefully I can get back to you with good results to report.
