David, yes, I selected 'check for bad blocks during format'. Except for
items 1 & 2 mentioned in post of 5/31 6:28PM, I always checked for bad
blocks.
Martin, unfortunately, memory is the one thing that I cannot check at this
time. I have to base my assumptions on the fact that the memory seems good
with everything else that I throw at it, just not L-M 6.0.
Ben, CD is an older atapi-compliant 6x Creative, again works just fine
except with L-M 6.0.
I really appreciate all of the suggestions that I am receiving. I am not
dismissing anything at this point, it's just that I am unable to
test/replace some of the components (!$).
I noted that Bernhard posted that there was a newer version of the ISO
available, but I have been unable to locate any other than the 990527
version on the dozen or so FTP sites that I've checked.
As a recap to those who might have forgotten: I have installed and/or
upgraded with the same components - RH 5.1, RH 5.2, L-M 5.3, RH (rawhide)
5.9, and RH 6.0. I have even compiled a couple of kernels. I won't argue
the possibility (probability??) that the failures are hardware related (note
the frequent -but not always- sig 11), but I cannot shake the feeling that
the catalyst is software related.
Again, thanks,
Greg
