OK, I did yet ANOTHER fresh workstation install. (this makes
about a dozen installs) Eveything goes along fine until I
get to the part about X configuration. I set up my X
configuration EXACTLY the way I had it set up under Festen
(which, btw, ran just fine). The setup program then tells me
my X configuration is not valid (why? it worked fine before
on exactly the same hardware). It then says to make a custom
bootdisk. Ok, I do that, and then it's time to restart the
machine. That goes along fine, but then a message comes up
sayoing something like
cannot start "/sbin/mingetty-respawning too fast-disabling
for 5 minutes" That happens 6 times-one for every virtual
console.So there's no login. ARGHHH!

Wait, there's more :-( So I do a hard reboot. It goes fine
until it gets to "creating /mnt/disk" Then an error comes up
saying "/bin/mkdir: /bin/mkdir-cannot execute binary file"
whereupon the thing dies, even though the hard disk activity
light is still continuously on.

One of the few times I DID get it to boot I noticed there
were a couple of unusual entries in the install.log file.
One said "cannot load shared library "libz.so.1". I couldn't
even find that file on the CDROM! I think it said it
couldn't execute the script.

I have all my hardware set to as slow as I can make it. It's
hardly a blazing fast computer with a 90 Mhz Pentium, 24 MB
of RAM and a WD 1.2g hard drive.

Does ANYBODY have ANY ideas at all? I'm starting to get
really annoyed...:-(
