What is the EXACT model # of your modem? Chances are if it's a 3Com/USR it's
a WinModem, which is not supported by Linux ("winmodem" as in mostly
software emulation of hardware!) Check the hardware compatibility list
(sorry, don't know the URL) for your modem....
