A search in the redhat knowledge base introduced me to "kbdrate", which
comes with Mandrake (it's in /usr/sbin, though, so I didn't find it in the
first place, by typing "k" and pressing TAB, because I was trying it as a
normal user). It solved my problem. I'm happy. :)
