I probably did.  Something started working after all.  I did a
find / -name "linuxc*" -print
to locate it, and then typed in what looked like the correct thing (as I
recall it was in /bin, but as that's in the path, I don't suppose that THAT
signifies)
Sorry that I didn't remember what the capitalization was when I typed the
reply, but something else is going on.
