Well it's Sunday and I've finally gotten back to this little problem (after
rewiring the phones in the house, and moving another computer and it's
peripherals into the basement where it's /much/ cooler.

So. Here is everything I've tried...

I logged in as root. Ran sndconfig. The config went along well identifying the
sound as CMI8330/C3D Audio Adapter (It is built in onto the motherboard and is
a SB16). Final result, no sound.

The modem I have is a 33.6 data/fax/voice modem. Not a win modem.

Now here is something else that is strange. A friend of mine has the same
hardware configuration except for ram and hdd size. He was originally running
5.2 and his sound worked just fine. We both installed 6.0 and sound on his
machine disappeared also.

Beo
two of us are now frustrated but still hanging in there. :)
