Well, you might want to make about 3 partitions....one for /home, one
for /usr and one for /. That way, if you have to reinstall, /home
MIGHT be able to be spared a reformat. And if you have a separate "/"
directory, it's more likely that the kernel will be within the first
1024 cylinders.
