There is, indeed, a "checkbox" to allow you to
automagically check for mail, however, nowhere is there an
option to let you specify how long you want to wait between
mail checks... and since KMail does NOT appear to be
multi-threaded (ie can't read while sending/receiving, at
least not well!) I have it turned off and manually check
for mail!
