I think HTML mail has it's pro's and con's. It's pro is that you can send a HTML file to someone and it could be read in a similar format to what it was written. It's con is that it is the most frequent format used by spammers and porn sites (because some scumbag registered my email addy).
Hope this presents a well-balanced view of HTML mail. Personally, I have only ever used it knowingly once. I tend to email Japanese friends, so most of my email is non-html.
