I have looked at your /var/log/XFree86.0.log file

The log file shows you last tried to load X at Wed Jul 24 18:31:33 2002
Correct?

The file looks pretty normal. It finds your keyboard (It has a US layout)
It finds your Geforce4 card (no complaints about it being too new)
It finds the card capabilities
Next it loads the Nvidia GLX extension . This section looks slightly different
to mine.
My log shows :-

(II) LoadModule: "glx"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so
(II) Module glx: vendor="NVIDIA Corporation"
        compiled for 4.0.2, module version = 1.0.2880
        Module class: XFree86 Server Extension
ABI class: XFree86 Server Extension, version 0.1
(II) Loading extension GLX

while yours has :-

(II) LoadModule: "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so" (glx)
(WW) LoadModule: given non-canonical module name
"/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so
(II) Module glx: vendor="NVIDIA Corporation"
        compiled for 4.0.2, module version = 1.0.2960
        Module class: XFree86 Server Extension
ABI class: XFree86 Server Extension, version 0.1
(II) Loading extension GLX

It looks like it has loaded the module Ok, but I wonder if your Load "glx"
statement in XF86Config-4 looks different to mine.

It loads the NVIDIA kernel driver OK(This means the RPMS are correctly
installed)

Next I see a small problem. Like John Smith yesterday, you have selected the
"Generic|High Frequency SVGA, 1024x768 at 70 Hz" Monitor
This is not stopping you loading X, but when you finally get X running, it
will severely limit the screen resolutions available to your rather fancy
video card. You should use XFdrake to select a different monitor. If yours
is not listed, then choose one with a similar spec.

Next it sets up your AGP bus and selects a screen resolution of 1024x768
Next it sets up your Mouse driver (you have a USB mouse with 3 buttons, no
wheel. If this is not correct run 'mousedrake' to select another mouse)

Up to this point your log file has been similar to mine (other than I have a
GeforceDDR card, and my monitor is set up correctly, and I have a PS2 mouse)

BUT the very last line of your log file has an additional line which is not in
mine :-

"(II) PM Event received: System Suspend Request"

I do not know what causes this message, but it kind of suggests that X
initialisation has worked until something has requested that it suspends.

Does anyone else know what could be causing this message?

At the moment I suggest
1/ You select a different monitor using XFdrake
2/ You set up your mouse again with mousedrake, just to be sure it is not a
mouse thing causing the suspension. (not very likely)

3/ Try Ctl+Alt+F7 just in case X is actually running, but we are looking at
the wrong screen

4/ Try running 'depmod -a' (without quotes) just in case a module dependency
has not been resolved.

5/ Post your XF96Config-4 file for us to look at.

I think we can be sure, there is very little wrong withyour system. Its just a
matter of finding that one little thing.

derek
