Recently we have had the unexplained problem of memory loss
on this list.

Probably not relevant to that occassion.

I have noticed over the couple of years that where I have had both
Mandrake and Windblows on the same computer a not dissimilar unexplained
memory loss which I found by accident I could cure simply by rebooting
to Windblows and back to mandrake.

It all happens slowly, and since I boot mandrake much more often than
Windblows I find that the drain to an unexplained memory loss is
cumulative and gradually you find perfectly simple tasks like
calculating a sum in a spreadsheet slowing down to the point that it
takes for ever. I checked the memory usage situations as best I could
(this was before I learned about the "top" command) but nothing unusual
seems to be soaking up memory. However the problem is solved by
rebooting to Windblows and back to Mandrake.

I just wondered what is going on and whether it is relevant with the
recent case.
